Dear Colleagues:

With apologies for cross-posting to both the RDG and ODG, I would like to congratulate RDG list-convenor Lionel Smith for his receipt from the University of Oxford of a higher doctorate, the Doctor of Civil Law (DCL). The DCL is an earned award that recognizes excellence in published scholarship.

The two independent judges concluded that Lionel’s work was of the absolute highest quality, substantial in scale, sustained over time, authoritative, and of global reach and international importance. Who could disagree?
